Off White is excited to offer a consignment area at the 2012 show! This is great news for both the bride and the small business owner. Brides can shop for unique products while enjoying the wedding show; and small businesses can participate at a no-risk option. So what is a consignor and why consign vs participate as a vendor? Here’s a quick look at the differences and some clarity on the roles.
What exactly is a consignor?
Merriam Webster defines consign as “to give, transfer, or deliver into the hands or control of another; also : to commit especially to a final destination or fate”. While we won’t interfere with your fate, we are happy to deliver products such as stationary, jewelry, accessories, planning tools and gifts to our guests at Off White in an area designated to consignors.
A consignor is different from a vendor. It is a no-risk option to participate. A consignor may be starting a small business or may focus on one specific item; however, the cost/benefit to apply for a vendor booth may not make sense. For example, a consignor may only sell jewelry, gifts, cards, stationary, etc. The wedding show is a great place to feature this product but it may not be large enough to need a full booth. The consignor area is also a great starting place where you may be asking yourself, “is a wedding show right for me”? The consignor area will be 10 x 10 booth with varied products from a number of different businesses. Much like a small market where your products may be purchased; however, it is not open for consignors to stand and sell their items. What is a Vendor?
Vendors may be more established in their product or service and perhaps have served in the wedding industry. Vendors are required to provide 100 items for gift bags valued at $5+ and 1 auction item valued at $20 + to benefit a local nonprofit. Off White is a juried show. The annotation ‘juried’ means you must submit slides or photographs which are reviewed by a jury (a knowledgeable committee) and your work will be accepted into the show based on technical skill, creativity, vendor category, price levels and/or other requirements. The benefits of applying to be a vendor are a designated booth space for you to represent your company’s products or services, an online listing in our vendor directory, a print listing in our “vendor passport” (couples are entered to win prizes if they visit each vendor booth), the opportunity to attend an Off White networking event before the show and much, much more. Vendor applications are due January 17th, 2012. Consignment applications are due February 13th, 2012.
Brides, our goal is to provide extraordinary, custom, one of a kind products and services. When you attend the show, you will not only have an opportunity to meet vendors that meet this expectation, you will be able to find unique options in the consignment “shop”. Our consignment shop will feature items that are handmade, eco-friendly and imaginative.
