Bruk Longbottom builds custom gowns for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, moms and more. Talented at both ground up gown designs, re-purposing a garment, or tailoring for men, Bruk can service the entire wedding party.  Other unique projects include ring bearer pillows and anything you can sew for a wedding! Karen Fontanetta of Bellafrabic

Karen has been working in historic preservation and conservation for seventeen years, as a curator, collections management, and as a historic archaeologist. With a keen interest in textile preservation, goods pertaining to the home arts, needle art, and historic fashion, she began dealing vintage and historic materials in 2006. Bellafabric currently has three ecommerce stores, participates in trade shows and expos throughout the Midwest along with a studio in Green Bay, WI.

Karen has a BA and MA from California State University, Fullerton in Anthropology with emphasis in Material Culture and Museology.

Dress Comfortably

We mean it. If you feel like showing up in your comfy capris and flops, do it! We encourage you to wear comfy shoes and clothes that feel good. You have enough images to hold up during this planning process, at Off White we want you to feel comfortable.

Jot Down Your Ideas

You are going to see a LOT of unique ideas. Whether it’s words written in jute or a bouquet made from brooches, you don’t want to trust your brain to remember all the cool things you will see. We will provide each bride with a show program listing all vendors. You may be able to jot down ideas here, but we recommend a notebook and a writing utensil so you can keep your ideas in a safe place!

Be Hands Free

Let’s face it, when you stop by the dessert vendors, you’re going to want your hands free so you can balance Just Sweets decadent delights with Frostbite Gourmets homemade ice cream! That’s why we highly recommend a handbag that can strap over your shoulder so your hands are free!

Give Your Hands a Rest

When you check in we’ll ask you to fill out a brief form. We do this so our vendors can follow up and so brides and grooms receive information about deals and giveaways. In addition, as you visit vendors, you may want to give them your information. Writing your name, wedding date and email more than once may seem like a pain, so we recommend printing out labels with name, wedding date and email address. This will save you time and an ache in your hand.

Arrive Early

The early bride will get the goods! The first 100 brides to the show will receive a goodie bag filled with items from our vendors. Four designers will model their one of a kind looks each hour and a raffle will take place throughout the show. Items include a nights stay at a B&B; savings on handmade invitations and more. Large Coffee table books are a great alternative to the “sign your name and say you were here” guest book. St. Louis Seen and Unseen by Michael Kilfoy is the perfect coffee table photo book. Your Wedding Tree

We started the week with Part 1 of our Registry blog. We’re continuing today with Part 2 and a giveaway you won’t want to miss. We’re seeing more brides and grooms breaking away from traditional china laden check lists and selecting what they want to receive, not what they think they should receive.  You and your beloved can break out of the registry mold. You don’t have to be afraid to add higher priced items, as long as you balance these with practical, more reasonably priced items.

Your Personality

Are you a DIY couple? Consider a Home Depot registry. Do you both enjoy the arts? Register for a painting or sculpture. Maybe you enjoy cooking together. Register for the corn stripper and garlic press. Don’t be afraid to add your interests into your registry. Perhaps you share a mutual love for home decor; help your guests by creating one or two themes throughout your registry. This will help friends and family get a feel for your style and the types of items you would like to receive.

Some couples would rather take the money and run, or in some cases, apply it to the honeymoon! Online honeymoon registries started in the mid-90′s and have become very popular. Honeymoon gift registries give wedding couples a way to register for the items and activities of their honeymoon online. Guests can purchase a nights stay, a bottle of wine, a couples massage, a meal and more.

We checked out Honey Luna, http://www.honeyluna.com/, their site explains: “Guests will choose something special that they would like to give you as a wedding gift. Unlike getting envelopes with checks in them at the wedding and leaving the next day for your honeymoon trip, a honeymoon gift registry allows you to know ahead of time what you will have available for extras and upgrades on your honeymoon or destination wedding. You can create your honeymoon registry and get the word out early, and have gift money to come in to help with the initial costs of the honeymoon trip as many of our wedding couples do.”

So if images of pristine china dishes and crystal vases come to mind when you talk of registries, you can break the mold and individualize this important part of your wedding! Go ahead, let him use the “gun” and scan the drill bits!

While shopping in Target this week I found myself standing an aisle over from a couple registering for their wedding. I couldn’t help but listen and smile at their conversation:

“What are you doing’? cried out the bride.

“Registering for a drill bit set”, her future husband explained. (Still displaying excitement over using a “gun” to scan items).

“We CANNOT register for drill bits”! exclaimed the wife to be. I glanced around the corner to see her future beloveds head shaking in confusion.

I enjoyed a few more moments of premarital wedding registry banter and moved on to my shopping list.

So is the bride right? Should the groom be able to register for drill bits? Can you, the bride, really register for a new flat iron? We think so! Brides and grooms are breaking away from traditional china laden check lists and selecting what they want to receive, not what they think they should receive.  After all, you will own this for the rest of your lives! You and your beloved can break out of the registry mold. You don’t have to be afraid to add higher priced items, as long as you balance these with practical, more reasonably priced items.

What has been your favorite dessert at a wedding? Wait, you mean there are other options than cake? Yes, indeedy! Gone are the days of a dry bland cake with a cold somewhat crumbly icing. Today, we see ice cream designs, candy bars, delightful brownies, pies, cupcakes and of course the traditional, but far more tasty then ever cake!

That’s why we’re excited to feature FROSTBITE GOURMET ICE CREAM! Founded by John Clopton, an ice cream lover, admirer, and meticulous maker of delicious ice cream in St. Louis.  During an age where time is money and food is made quickly, John is intentional about slowing down! Using old-fashioned, wooden ice cream churns, ice and rock salt, each batch of ice cream takes about two days to make.  On his website he shares: “Whenever possible, I use the local ingredients and rather than sugar, I use all-natural honey from farms in Missouri and the surrounding states.  All of the ice cream is made with lactose-free milk and contains no artificial sweeteners or preservatives.”
